I love watching ramantic films. Boy meets girl. Get to know each other. Fall in love and they live happily ever after. Such films bring a feeling of ease knowing that in this world full of hate and chaos, love stands out - it always does!Although I love the "we used to be the best of friends and then became lovers" kind of thing, I have to say that meeting the love of your life isn't limited to such an idea. Sure. It sounds sweet and cute but there are different ways of finding a life time partner and one of which is online dating.
Online dating has turned the impossible into possible. It allows individuals to communicate over the internet, become friends and hopefully fall in love. It's a more difficult process due to distance and culture differences and "how couples manage those differences is the key to long-term success" (Paula Hall quoted from BBC News) - makes a lot of sense to me.
I know a lot of people who are pessimistic about the idea of finding love over the internet. Their defense is that it's impossible to find a perfect partner through online dating services. Come to think of it, a perfect partner doesn't exist at all. Whether you find your partner online or offline, you'll always find something wrong with him/her sooner or later. Relationships are hard which is why Hall's quote makes a good point - that the main key to achieving a long term happy relationship is to manage the hardships together.
Believe me when I say distance and cultural conflicts can and will never stop two people in falling in love and being together.
By the way, I am Maxi, a happy Filipina and a proud girlfriend to Janne of Sweden, signing off.
