Movie Pastime: Survival of the Dead

After knowing that my boyfriend had a new zombie film on hand, I kept on forcing him to spend a couple of zombie hours with me. After his very busy week at work, we finally had the chance to watch George Romero's Survival of the Dead last Friday.

"On an island off the coast of North America, local residents simultaneously fight a zombie epidemic while hoping for a cure to return their un-dead relatives back to their human state."

Survival of the Dead Trailer:

Survival of the Dead has been released in the American Film Market in November 2009 and in several Film Festivals (Austria, Italy, Canada and France). This movie is scheduled to be due in cinemas in:
UK 15 March 2010 (DVD premiere)
Austria 9 April 2010
USA 30 April 2010 (Video On Demand)
Germany 6 May 2010
USA 28 May 2010 (limited)
Japan 12 June 2010

As of the moment, Survival of the Dead has a good 6.2/10 rating (with 1,009 votes and growing) which I must say is a bit surprising for me.

Anyway, I am one of the many fans of George Romero's "zombieville" movies. I really really like his Dawn of the Dead (my favorite so far), Land of the Dead and Day of the Dead films. I have been expecting too much from his second to the latest film, Survival of the Dead. Story wise, I give George Romero "two thumbs up" for this one. However, the film's effects are somehow disappointing (especially in that part where zombie heads are being placed in poles).

So, is the film good? If you are a zombie film fanatic like me, I say watch this one. But --- do NOT level your Survival of the Dead expectations with Dawn of the Dead, okey? I am pretty sure that you will anyway like this film. Watch watch watch!

As of now, I am looking forward to the latest zombie film of George Romero, The Crazies which has been already released in some countries (UK, USA, Canada) in February of this year.
