The birthplace of the ‘Sport of Kings’, horseracing, has featured many legends and not only of the four-legged equine variety. A first class venue for concerts, this year’s Carlisle Nights calendar features some of our best-known acts and one of the classiest, Texas, is appearing, live, on Friday 24th June. Following on from their last live performance here, in front of an audience of 22,000 in 2006, this promises to be a huge event, and one not to be missed. Texas
Scottish band, Texas, has been at the forefront of the UK’s music industry for a number of years. As a group act they have had a string of hit albums and singles, such as ‘I Don’t Want a Lover’, ‘Say What You Want’, and ‘Black-Eyed Boy’, to name just three, and lead vocalist, Sharleen Spiteri, has been highly successful as a solo artist, too. Their unique sound is instantly recognisable around the world, and they are a band that the UK can rightly be very proud of. Their debut album, entitled ‘Southside’ was released in 1989 and went on to become a global success.
The lovely town of Carlisle is steeped in royal history, so it’s no surprise that it was the natural birthplace of that true British ‘Sport of Kings’, horseracing, a sport that is now celebrated in almost every country in the world. Three hundred and fifty years on, it is still as important today as it always was.
Carlisle Racecourse itself is a wonderful venue for all manner of events, besides racing and, with its excellent facilities, it is the perfect place to stage concerts. The Carlisle Nights concept is now in its twenty-fifth year, so the events of 2011 celebrate this important anniversary.
The chance to see Texas, live, at the original home of horseracing, is one not to be missed, and will most definitely be a night to remember for a very long time.
