Collecting items of a certain nature is a hobby for many people. Some people choose to collect stamps, others choose coins, some people even collect dolls [Waylon Smithers from the Simpsons]! Some people think of collecting as a geeky hobby, but geeky is in fashion nowadays, right? Whatever you want to collect, you can easily become a brilliant collector with the advice in this post:

Find Your Passion
What are you passionate about? If you want to be a great collector you need to find the items you feel most passionate about. You can try collecting a few different items if you like, to see how you feel about certain things. See what collections you feel most proud of and go from there! You might already know that you want to collect Eddie Stobart model trucks, for example. In that case, go ahead and start your collection!
Work Out Your Budget
It’s never a good idea to go spending all of your money on your new hobby without working out your budget first. Building up amazing collections takes time, so don’t expect to make it in a few days, weeks, or even months. Work out exactly how much you can comfortably afford to spend on your hobby per week/month, and include things like entering shows and protection insurance to make sure you don’t overspend.
Start Your Collection
Now you know your budget you can begin looking for items to go in your collection. Look on sites like Gumtree and eBay, in charity shops, vintage markets, and anywhere else you might find your item. You might even be able to find a specialist site online that sells the items you’re after!
Try to Include Rare/Highly Sought After Items
All great collections include at least a few rare and highly sought after items. You’ll need to keep an eye out for these - it could take you years to find them! You’ll feel like you’ve hit the jackpot when you do find one of these items though.
Display Your Collection at Shows
There may be collector’s shows where you can go and proudly present your collection. You’ll also be able to chat to other collectors and share tips!
Insurance is important, as you’ll likely spend a good amount of money on your collection, whatever it may be. Although if something disastrous happened to it you probably wouldn’t be able to build it up again, at least you won’t be out of pocket [although I’m sure you’ll be very upset]. Depending on what your collection is, you may also want to get extra security on your home to protect it from thieves!
Being a brilliant collector is all about having a huge passion for your collection, and getting involved with every show and activity you can to showcase it and share tips with other collectors. Keep your eyes peeled for rare items and you could end up with one of the best collections in the whole world!
